Who benefits most from the Web Rocket Service? Web Rocket will significantly improve the speed with which you see a web page when connected to the Internet over a dial-up modem. How does the Web Rocket Service work? The Web Rocket Service speeds up the delivery and presentation of web pages with a program called Propel Accelerator IQ Network Systems Edition, this program uses a combination of compression and caching of text and graphics data, both at the PC and through the Network. The result is a dramatic improvement in performance when you browse using a dial-up connection. The benefits are especially pronounced when you are viewing dynamic HTML pages. such as are used by the most popular web sites. Will I ever see out-of-date web pages when using Web Rocket? Web page content can be marked by the originating site as:
In the first two cases, the Web Rocket users will have content updated exactly as the originating site intended. However, in the third case there will be instances when the accelerator program re-delivers content instead of retrieving it from the originating site. In such a case, the accelerators page caching rules ensure that the content will never be more than a day old. How long will it take to download the Propel Accelerator IQ Network Systems Edition? Depending on the speed of your modem and the processing speed of your computer, downloading will take between 5-10 minutes. For example, a modem operating at 48kbps will download the program in about 5 minutes using a fairly new computer. Running the install on your computer takes a minute or less. The optional quick tour takes approximately 2-3 minutes. What types of web content are accelerated? The program accelerates web page text (including plain text, HTML, markup and JavaScript) and the most common forms of graphics: Gifs, animated GIF, JPEG images, and Flash. The program does not accelerate other forms of internet content, including: streaming media, such as video or audio streams; secure pages, like online banking or credit card forms; file downloads, including MP3 files or executables. How do I reinstall Propel Accelerator IQ Network Systems Edition? If you need to reinstall the Accelerator you can easily do so. Simply reinstall the program from the Propel Setup program on your machine I installed the program and now I cannot seem to access the Internet. What should I do? See the Propel Accelerator IQ Network Systems Edition help for troubleshooting tips regarding Internet connection problems. Click on the Propel icon in the taskbar, then select Help from the pop-up menu. What are the system requirements for the Propel Accelerator IQ Network Systems Edition? Operating Systems: Win98 or above. Macintosh is not supported. Browser: IE 5.0 or later, Netscape 4.7 or later, Opera and Mozilla Available Disk Space: 25 MB (135MB recommended) Total System Memory (RAM): 32 MB (64 MB or above highly recommended) Does the program work behind a firewall? The program only works on slow connections (200 Kbps or lower). If your behind a corporate firewall on a dial-up connection, the Accelerator may not work. If you have a personal firewall product installed on your PC, the Accelerator should work, using the Running Diagnostics from the Propel menu will indicate whether you are accessing the Internet through the Accelerator or not. Are Ad-Blockers, popup stoppers, personal firewalls and other utilities compatible with Web Rocket? The accelerator is compatible with most ad blockers, popup stoppers, personal firewalls, and other utilities. In some cases. minor configuration wither of the Accelerator or other products is needed. Yes. Deleting your browser's temporary files can potentially impact browser performance, since there will initially be no static cached pages. Similarly, deleting the Accelerator temporary files will temporarily decrease the amount of acceleration you get. How do I uninstall the Propel Accelerator IQ Network Systems Edition? IMPORTANT: If you are using Netscape, Mozilla, or Opera with the Accelerator, you will need to manually reconfigure the proxy settings for the respective browser after uninstalling or stopping the Accelerator in order to continue using the Internet. From the Windows Start Menu select: Programs -> {the Accelerator program group} -> Uninstall the Accelerator How do I enable or disable the program? When the Accelerator is enabled, the Accelerator menu will contain a command "Disable Accelerator". Select this command to disable the Accelerator. By default, the Accelerator is enabled, meaning that your Internet will be accelerated. When you choose the disable command, the accelerator will be bypassed, and you will access the internet at normal speeds. If the icon shows a red circle with a line through it then the Accelerator is disabled. Does the program allow products that use other local proxy servers to work? Yes. products using proxy servers can work together in a "daisy chain" configuration to allow different products to work together to pre-process content independently but pass the final processed web content to the browser. Since the Accelerator provides a network infrastructure for compression, caching, and acceleration, it does need to be the last one in the chain. In order for a product that uses a proxy server to work with the Accelerator, it should have an option to allow another proxy server to be the "next hop" in the daisy chain. I use McAfee Privacy Service to filter content. Is it compatible with Web Rocket? At this time the Accelerator is not compatible with McAfee Privacy Service. (It is however compatible with other McAfee products.) If both are installed on a machine you will not be able to access the internet. Does the program speed up the retrieval & delivery of email as opposed to just speeding up surfing? The Accelerator can accelerate Web Page and Web-Based email (such as Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) text (including plain text, HTML, markup and JavaScript) and most common forms of graphics: most Flash graphics, GIF, animated GIF, and JPEG images. In regard to email that is not web-based (such as Outlook) the accelerator speeds up embedded HTML images. This can be significant in the case of mass mailings that include embedded GIF, JPEG, or Flash graphics. Does the program work with Netscape? Yes, the accelerator works with Netscape 4.7 or later. You must set the Netscape browser to a manually set Proxy Server. See Netscape help for setting up a proxy server. I use ZoneAlarms, is that compatible with the Propel Accelerator IQ Networks Edition? Yes, however there is a compatibility problem between Zone Alarm Pro and the Accelerator, this is easily solved by doing these two steps:
Can I use RealOne Player with the program? Yes, however the initial RealOne Player proxy settings may need to be adjusted before you can use the player. Is Netscape's SmartDownload compatible with the program? Under some conditions the SmartDownload proxy settings may be incompatible with the Accelerator. Click the Advanced button on the SmartDownload screen, click the Proxy Tab, select "Override with these settings." Make sure the field next to HTTP: is empty. Can I use Opera with the program? Yes, the same as Netscape some configuration changes will need to be made to the Proxy Server settings. See Opera Help for setting up Proxy in Opera. Click the icon, click options, click advanced, you will see the proxy number displayed, click OK. You will need this number to configure Netscape, Opera, or Mozilla to work with the Accelerator. |
